3 People Missing in Mississippi River after Vessels Crash, Sulfuric Acid Released

A story developing via Nola.com . Two vessels crashed while navigating through the Mississippi River, just outside New Orleans on Sunday morning. The two vessels involved in the crash were the RC Creppel (pushing a barge carrying sulfuric acid) and The Cooperative. According to NOLA.com, the RC Creppel sank into the river while The Cooperative was just badly damaged.

The three missing persons were onboard the RC Creppel, one person in addition to those three who was also onboard the RC Creppel was rescued according, to Petty Officer, Sydney Phoenix.

The Coast Guard also stated that an “unknown amount” of vapor from the sulfuric acid was released into the river. Vessel traffic was closed. Sources: Nola.com
